Shakopee, Minn., March 3, 2010 - The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is currently seeking applicants for the 2010 Agvocate (Advocate for Agriculture) program set to begin in June.

Currently in its first year, the MCGA Agvocate program is designed to create a learning environment to encourage the development of young leaders in agriculture.  It also strives to create awareness of issues facing corn farmers and develop young leaders into skilled advocates for these issues.

Agvocates will be given opportunities to become actively involved with corn and agriculture, develop leadership, communication and advocacy skills through hands-on experiences and network with agricultural professionals. Among other benefits of the program, Agvocates will receive a $3000 scholarship.

Eligible candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and be enrolled in 2-year or 4-year post-secondary education or training program. Participants will be required to attend the Minnesota Agriculture Ambassador Institute in June and also assist MCGA at events such as FarmFest, State Fair and MN Ag EXPO.

Applications and program information can be found here or by calling the MCGA office at 952-233-0333. The deadline to apply is April 19, 2010. Applicants will be interviewed and chosen by May 15.

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is one of the largest membership-based corn organizations in the country. MCGA is dedicated to identifying and promoting opportunities for Minnesota’s corn growers, while educating the non-farming public about the importance of agriculture.
